Razz term
A brick is a card that does nothing for your low — either too big to play, a nine or above, or a rank you already hold. Both are dead weight for the same reason: your best five have to be five different ranks, and a duplicate can't fill two of them.
Catching one while you're ahead is how a good hand quietly stops being one.
