How to Play 2-7 No-Limit Single Draw

The short answer

2-7 No-Limit Single Draw uses the same rankings as 2-7 Triple Draw — straights and flushes count against you, aces are always high — but you get one draw instead of three, and you can bet everything in front of you. The best hand is 7-5-4-3-2 unsuited.

The rules in five ideas

If you know 2-7 Triple Draw, you already know how hands are ranked here. What changes is that you get one shot at improving, and the betting has no ceiling — which makes this the most aggressive game in the rotation.

1. Deuce-to-seven rankings. Lowest hand wins, straights and flushes count against you, and the ace is always high — which makes it the worst card in the deck.

2. The best hand is 7-5-4-3-2, unsuited. It skips the six because 7-6-5-4-3 is a straight, and a straight loses. Any five cards of one suit is a flush, and a flush loses too.

3. One draw. One chance to throw cards away and take new ones, with a betting round before it and one after. Two betting rounds in total.

4. No limit. You can bet any amount up to everything in front of you, at any point. This is what separates the game from triple draw, and it is most of the strategy.

5. Standing pat is a real line. With one draw and public information about how many cards everyone took, taking none says a great deal — which is exactly why snowing works here better than anywhere else.

How the betting works

Blinds, and two betting rounds: one before the draw and one after it. No limit — any bet from the minimum up to your entire stack is legal at any point, which is why a single hand can be for everything.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best hand in 2-7 No-Limit Single Draw?
7-5-4-3-2, not all of one suit. It skips the six because 7-6-5-4-3 is a straight, and straights count against you.
How many draws do you get in 2-7 Single Draw?
One. There is a betting round before it and one after, so two betting rounds in total.
Is 2-7 Single Draw the same as 2-7 Triple Draw?
The rankings are identical. Single draw gives you one draw instead of three and is played no-limit rather than fixed limit.
Is the ace high or low in 2-7 Single Draw?
Always high, which makes it the worst card you can hold.
What does it mean to stand pat?
To take no cards on the draw. It says your hand is already made — which is why standing pat with a hand that cannot win is a bluff worth having.
